Brass and Percussion Students Needed for Motor City Youth Brass Band

MCYBBMotor City Brass Band is proud to announce the second season of its exciting new ensemble for youth in Southeast Michigan, the Motor City Youth Brass Band.  MCYBB is seeking a diverse cross-section of youth, ages 14 to 22, to play in the only youth brass and percussion ensemble of its kind in Michigan.

Hosted by The Lamphere Schools in Madison Heights, MCYBB will offer students an opportunity to develop brass and percussion technique, cultivate musicianship through exploration of the brass band genre, and participate in master classes led by world-class professional musicians.  Under the direction of music educator and MCBB solo cornetist, Erin Hufford, MCYBB will perform a wide variety of music ranging from classical to rock to jazz.

MCYBB’s first open rehearsal will be held Thursday, November 8 from 6:10 – 8:00 p.m. at John Page Middle School, 29615 Tawas St. in Madison Heights.  The first rehearsal is open to all students and there is no cost to join the band.  The MCYBB season will run through April 18, 2008 with rehearsals every Thursday evening from 6:10 – 8:00.

In the British tradition, Motor City Youth Brass Band will use standard brass band instruments, many of which will be provided to students on loan from the band.  Trumpet players are eligible to play Eb cornet, Bb cornet, flugelhorn, and tenor horn, while French horn players are eligible for tenor horn.  Low brass players are eligible for baritone, euphonium, trombone, bass trombone, Eb tuba, and Bb tuba.

MCYBB is open to all brass and percussion players ages 14-22 and is free to join. Don't delay. Find out more on how to join this exciting new band!
